Why You Need some White Frilliness in your Life

I’ve had a long, on-off relationship with white Victoriana frilliness, and the latest installment is an almighty pretty one.

I’ve long loved the OTT girliness of blouses like this, often a welcome antidote to the grungy boyishness I often end up falling back on when wintering in London. Super pretty and delicate but, if styled in a ‘me’ way, never twee. Avoiding the dreading twee is a something I’m eternally loyal to. I think because I’m quite petite in stature, anything too prim can make me look like a little girl trussed up for a birthday party; not normally a vibe I’m after. Vintage jeans and a so-tacky-its-fabulous Dior bag are just one way to ground this ethereal top half. The sartorial equivalent of feet on the ground, head in the clouds if you will….

The first sight of Spring, even if that’s just a brief blue sky morning that’s just about 10 degrees, is enough to have me reaching for something reminiscent of The Virgin Suicides. Case in point, this Zimmerman beauty from mytheresa.com that’s sweetness incarnate and made for loungeing around in sunlight pools on my living room floor. Just as good at a dinner party now as it will be out and about with a biker jacket when it warms up a bit… Super nice with denim shorts and a basket on holiday too.

Toughen them up with ass-hugging jeans and accessories with attitude, and the little white blouse will feel less old-lady-tablecloth, more cool girl staple. Promise.
