Proving Tit Tape Isn’t Just For Noughties Celebs

I’ve rediscovered the joys of double-sided tape of late and it’s opened up a whole new world of tops so I thought I’d share my now not-so-secret weapon with you guys.

Once the sole domain of flash pap photography and a favourite of the likes of Heat magazine in the early noughties who would smugly put a huge red circle around a close-up shot of a celebrity’s exposed tape, the only thing holding their itsy-bitsy diamante dress in place. The SHAME the tabloids cried. Tit tape had a bad rep for a while… It brought to mind necklines that plunged to navels and words like ‘vajazzle’. It was try-hard and uncool and fiddly and almost as bad as any kind of underwear with clear straps. Those will never be coming back into my life I can safely say.

Well I’m afraid I’ve done a bit of a 180 on these humble strips of double-sided tape of late. Being on the smaller-side on the boob scale, I find it near impossible to wear a wrap dress with a bra. If you have a bigger boobs, it’s actually easier to do that (trust me) but with me, there’s no way of flashing bra and for me, that kind of ruins things, especially for something formal like a wedding or even just a nice dinner. I can get away with wearing nothing at all luckily, but a moment of bad posture, bending over or just a light breeze is enough to expose all. And you know, I’m all for #FreeTheNipple but call me old fashioned, I want to keep everything nice and under wraps on an average day minding my own business.

This summer, tit tape has become something of a wardrobe must-have for me. It’s the only thing that makes these Realisation Par tops wearable and functional for me and I finally wear pieces like this with actual confidence rather than looking down every other second. I like this stuff and this roll from Amazon (forever making the most out of my Prime membership) and trust me, it’s a bit of a game changer for us C cups and under when it comes to wearing wrap dresses and shirts. To be honest, even little silk camisoles can benefit from a teeny bit of this stuff underneath if you want to be able to take your jacket on and off, dance with your hands in the air or do just about anything that isn’t sitting meekly in the corner without losing a strap down your shoulder. And it’s not just evening stuff; I reach for the tape even in the daytime a la this kind of thing or little low-cut wrap dresses.

Not the coolest or most exciting wardrobe addition I’ll concede, but sometimes a little bit of effort is needed even for the most ‘throw on’ on get-ups.
