A Slip of a Thing
My love for slip dresses is the stuff of romance novels. Forever and always if you will. And with two shiny new ones in my wardrobe, I thought I’d style them both up for two very different takes on the look.
First up is this blushing, silky, peachy number from Ghost. If anyone knows how to do a slip dress properly it’s this brand, synonymous with the slip’s 90s inception. Unlike other slips I’ve tried, this one is actually FLATTERING. Yep, you heard. As in, it actually skims over lumps and bumps rather than clinging to them, and the fabric is thick enough to make you feel like everything is firmly under wraps. I am having a real thing for this colour too. Whereas previously I would have just gone for black on instinct, I made myself go with my heart for a change and am so glad I did. I’m not a girly girl by nature and yet pink is all I want to wear right now (no doubt you’ll be seeing a lot more of it in weeks to come). Don’t ask me why or where this has come from (these things tend to happen by osmosis if you will), but anything slinky and suitably drapey in this saccarrine shade is immediately in my line of sight.
Feeling a little too boudoir for you? This looks especially great under a black bomber jacket and biker or, a slim-fitted white tee if you want to wear this into the office or the pub.
Next up, a navy mini version from Asceno. I didn’t get to wear this beauty on the beach recently so I layered it up over long sleeves back home instead for its debut outing. I couldn’t help but go down the stripes route (any excuse) and classic Vans keep the whole thing fresh and casual. One of the main things for me with the slip dress is trying to make sure it’s not trying too hard. I hate feeling fancy most of the time and these sexy, rippling dresses sometimes need all the dressing down they can get. Hence messy hair, grungy kicks and casual breton stripes keeps the whole thing grounded, while a little bit of Gucci goodness keeps it age relevant and pulled together.
