Our amazing trip through Rajasthan and the beautiful, blue lagoons of the Maldives is drawing to a close, but not before one last heap of photos from Huvafen Fushi, the final stop on our trip. And we couldn’t have ended on more of a high…
We continued to lol around in that incredible pool, devour books and dodge the short, sharp rain showers with fresh coconuts and homemade ice cream on hand. Wander around the island a little and you’ll find deserted patches of platinum sand with the odd swinging bed or crocheted hammock to hide away in. We asked to have a look inside one of the beach bungalows and were pretty blown away. I loved sleeping over the water but I have to say, at Huvafen at least, the beach bungalows were seriously impressive with a pool in the garden and a private deck out onto the beach. It got us daydreaming about coming back before we’d even left…. Always a sign of a special place if you ask me.
If my hair looks beyond greasy in some of the shots, it’s because I’d been lovingly smothered in coconut oil in the spa just before and left it on to try and mend my beachy split ends.
It really is even better down where its wetter too… No trip to the Maldives is complete without a snorkel close at hand and Huvafen has one of the best reefs in the atolls to explore. With a live-in marine biologist, the hotel’s passionate about looking after the wealth of life in its lagoon and as soon as you peer down through your goggles you can see the hard work is paying off. The house reef located in front of the main pool is teaming with life, from tiny Nemo fish to (friendly) reef sharks and turtles. We borrowed our snorkels and flippers on day one and after one trip round the reef were totally hooked and were soon heading into the blue several times a day… Hopefully you can understand why form these pics.
After rain and wind almost every evening, on our last night we were treated to the ultimate sky. It’s almost as though the island knew we were leaving and was just teasing us with one of the best pink skies I’d ever seen… We sat back with mojitos in hand and willed our stay to magically extend by a million days before gorging on what can only be described as a pile of incredible sea food at Salt restaurant.
Over and out Maldives. Might just have to tick this one off the bucket list twice…
