Postcards from Mallorca
With my Out of Office firmly on, last week I flew out for a week of lazy days with 8 girlfriends in Mallorca. Having just got back from 36 hours in New York for a super exciting work project before heading straight out of London to a wedding, I was once again running on empty and much in need of some downtime.
We rented a villa through Air BnB, hired a couple of cars and spent the week doing very little and eating and drinking a lot. We spent the most part lazing by our pool, cooking vats of pasta at home and spontaneously making rounds of spritzers for the pool. I read half a book all week which goes to show just how much we talked all week long…
Mallorca was much bigger than I thought, taking about two hours to get from top to bottom. We were based up in the north close to Pollenca Old Town so spent the majority of time eating and exploring the north and north west of the island. The outings we did do, I’ve listed below…
– Rent a boat from Puerto Pollenca and moor up in the likes of Formentor for a swim and a picnic. Just don’t go up round the northern most point.. We did and were faced with 20 ft swells and I promptly had a panic attack!
-Dinner in Pollenca Old Town. We had delicious seafood pasta at Restaurant Il Giardino and really great tapas at L’illa Cafe & Bistro. When we were there, the whole square became a dance floor with one night hosting a jazz band and swing dancing, another a DJ throwing out 80s, 90s and House till the early hours with everyone wearing top-to-toe white.
– Lunch at Ca’s Patro March looking over Cala Deia. Get the grilled prawns, padron peppers, a magnum of rose and feel incredibly smug as you look out over those turquoise waters.
– Walk along the pine walk in Puerto Pollenca, stop for a gin and tonic at the waterside bar at the Illa D’Or hotel before paella or pizza one of the waterside restaurants.
– Spend the day at Puro Beach Club in Palma, a great option if you have a late flight and an early check out. It’s 10 minutes from the airport and a great way to spend a final day in the sun. Make sure you book, this place is super popular with delicious food and lovely touches like complimentary fruit and cold towels.
