The Grandpa Shirt

Comfort always wins in my mind. I love you clothes, but I refuse to be too cold, too hot or bruise the balls of me feet for you. Hence anything that verges on the sort of thing you’d wear to bed is always a winner in my mind.

My latest obsession is ye olde grandpa shirt. Ironically enough, I’ve always found this neckline super sexy (on women and not on grandpas I hasten to add) in a really understated way. I don’t even know if Jane Birkin ever wore one, but I can totally picture her back in the day in the South of France with Serge wearing something very similar to this get-up for wine and cigarettes at sundown. I’ve given the cigarettes the boot (go me) but the rest of that particular picture sounds pretty dreamy…

I find I’m always naturally drawn towards labels that started out as menswear brands when it comes to basics. This particular find is from Swedish label J.Lindeberg which has a knack for producing those androgynous staples you want to pull on again and again. I always go oversized with these kind of tops – can’t deal with anything clingy – which makes teaming with teeny tiny shorts much more doable. And in an attempt to transport myself to Jane’s French abode that bit more, just add a straw basket (picked up in Brighton recently) and a bunch of ridiculously overpriced flowers. Not to self, never buy flowers on Shoreditch High Street ever again…
