Top 5 NYFW Collections
It’s that time again… Ready for my biannual breakdown of favourite collections from the shows? Here goes…
Yet again, The Row delivered clean, elegant and all-round aspirational silhouettes that us mere mortals can but try to recreate. The Row never fails to inspire me to pare things back, throw away my skinny jeans and be forever easy, breezy and effortless. The fact that my first ever style icons are behind the label helps too… Bravo MK and Ashley.
I’m a big fan of this native New York brand and love how it always turns out separates that feel at once wearable and innovative. Tiny tweaks on classic staples lead to those pieces you never knew you wanted but suddenly can’t be without… The suede wrap skirts, dark navy pieces and monotone looks are all worth noting for next season.
Who’d have thought VB would end up in my top 5 shows. But she has indeed and rightly so. The ribbed textures of those knits and skirts, the slightly severe turtle-necks and cutaway wool dresses all feel very cool and incredibly covetable. Yes it’s a lot more ladylike than my style, but it’s done in such a strong way and feels powerful, sexy and modern which I can definitely get on board with.
A favourite with Leandra ‘Man Repeller’ Meadine, Assoulin was in last season’s Top Shows post and is here again thanks to her awesome, oversized signature silhouettes. AW 15 feels much more tomboyish than previous seasons which I obviously love, and the juxtaposition of bodices with sneakers is the kind of unique styling detail that makes this girl so inspiring.
I want to belt just about everything at the moment so OC’s belted looks immediately spoke to me. And those cropped flares need to be done… All those different cosy textures, caramel colours and thick, buttery black leathers could end up looking rustic and bulky but at the hands of Opening Ceremony, the result is sleek, streamlined and pulled together.
