Ladies in Black
After a summer of wearing anything that could quite literally be thrown on 24/7, the arrival of autumn seems to dictate the sartorial point of difference between day and night. ‘Going out’ is suddenly an adjective again when it comes to describing that new top/dress/shoes and the need for a pair of heels or a cocktail dress is an imminent reality.
So L.K.Bennett’s invite to drinks, dinner and more drinks at The Savoy to celebrate their new collection of Little Black Dresses couldn’t have come at a better time. Myself and five other bloggers descended upon one of The Savoy’s beautiful suites for an indulgent few hours of champagne and preening (on a non-dress related note, I loved the room’s chintzy curtains, peppermint striped sofas and Downton-esque four poster bed).
After catching up with the other girls over a glass of champagne, I quietened my inner control freak and let the clever team from Blow Ltd work their magic on my tired face and sad hair. In honour of my Audrey Hepburn frock and swanky surroundings, I let the stylist take some tongs to my beach head for something a bit more ‘done’ (and very, very bouncy) than I’d usually go for.
Looking far more awake and glowy than when I arrived (the champagne might have had something to do with the glowy part), I slipped into my chosen black shift dress (with the kind of back detail that makes you want to walk around backwards all evening) and peep-toe shoe boots before heading down to Kaspars restaurant for a three-course feast. After one too many carb-free fashion dinners of late, this was a breath of fresh air. Lobster club sandwiches, goats cheese ravioli and treacle tart were polished off between long chats, lots of laughs loud enough to scare the other guests and number-swapping with new friends.
Thank you L.K.Bennett for one of the best dates (and dresses) I’ve had in a long time!
