Dressing Table Dissect

DSCF3059 copy

I had one of those satisfying afternoons this week cleaning and sorting the array of junk that had build up on bedside dressing table, stripping it back to the essentials. And seeing as it’s looking relatively neat and tidy, I thought I’d share said essentials with you guys…

I’m one of those people who forgets about things if they’re put away in cupboards and drawers so I’ve always tended to keep beauty products out on show so I remember to apply that eye cream or lip balm. I’ve focused on beauty in the next shot so I’ll just run through the other things that live next to me…

Notebooks | Nothing beats putting pen to paper when it comes to lists and ideas (sorry Apple) and I always need a couple of good notebooks nearby to write down what’s running through my head before I turn off the light. It’s a great way to try and quieten those worries that go round and round your head and stop you sleeping. The silver one is a personalised leather notebook from Aspinal and the marbled paper one I bought in Venice.

Sleep mask | Another great help when sleep won’t come. I always travel with this as you never know if there’s going to be annoying electrical lights or curtainless windows when you’re staying at Air Bnb apartments or hotels. This pretty silk one is from Yolke – it’s also one of my favourite things to give people as a gift.

Silver ‘L’ | No explanation needed. Sometimes you just need to monogram your own room… Picked this up in Graham & Green recently for the bargain price of £2.99!

Books | I always have a book on the go even if it’s admittedly slow going when I’m in London. These are the current fixtures that also serve as a lamp prop….
Gypset Travel, Julia Chaplin
Freedom, Jonathan Franzen
The Comfort of Strangers, Iam McEwan

Candles | No room is complete without good-quality scented candles. The one lit is a new one called Grand Chalet from Astier de Villate and the little copper one is by Tom Dixon.

Mirror | Bought this 1940s mirror a year ago from ebay and the oval shape works really well propped up on the dresser (no nails needed – fellow renters will sympathise). There are some similar ones here.

Silver dish | A little antique dish to keep jewellery, hair bands, my watch and some random shells.

Trays | Putting products on a small tray stops them from overflowing too much and keeps them somewhat ordered. I said somewhat… I’m on the hunt for a clear perspex tray for my makeup which is currently all over place (bathroom, bedroom, bottom of handbags)… anyone know where I can find one?

So I’ve tagged the below picture with some key products. Hover over and click on the icons to shop….

Is your bedside dresser as cluttered as mine and if so, what’s on it?
