Dressing Kinda Sexy When You Don’t Do Sexy
Dates, dinners, work parties… January doesn’t have to be dry but dressing to impress isn’t always easy if it’s freezing outside and your natural disposition is jeans and t-shirts. As a somewhat boyish dresser by nature, I don’t subscribe to men”s magazines traditional idea of sexy. Cleavage? Haven’t got any. And bare legs and sky high heels? A little too extrovert for a natural introvert. But there is another way… Sexy doesn’t have to mean lots of skin and everything tight (although there’s no denying that can be hot too), and at this time of year, flashing just a slither of skin is enough. Instead, slinky fabrics and spankable pantaloons are the way to go to feel like your best self even in the midst of winter. And incidentally I’m not talking about dressing for dudes here (or girls), I’m talking about dressing for yourself. Feeling sexy doesn’t need anyone else’s approval or eyes to be a real feeling…
First up, my little tuxedo dress by Misha NoNo. I paired the sexy secretary vibes down with mannish loafers and went matchy-matchy for once with a velvet pouch bag. Minimal makeup and zero blowdry helps the whole thing remain low key and not be too ‘done’.

Ahhh the midriff. Not my usual go-to show-off zone I’ll admit. But this shirt is so elegant, so drapey, I was willing to flash a little stomach for once. In fairness, I’m exaggerating the flashiness of it when in reality, it would just move really subtley with you, showing just the glimmery of glimmers of tummy. With high-waisted jeans, the stomach would be even less on show and the top even more dressed town. I just loved the shape and colour of this so much and it’s as good now as it will be on holiday somewhere hot just as soon as I can get round to booking some flights.
Lastly, who says a jumper and trousers can’t be sexy? A round circle of bare back is a nice little window into what lies beneath while a bit of PVC shine never did anyone any harm…
January doesn’t have to be all PJ’s and takeaways. I said all…
