Walking on Mars
As you know, I’m not normally one for ‘statement’ pieces. Give me a pair of great biker over a ‘trophy jacket’ any day… But while I might be an out and proud lover of great basics, I’m not immune to falling under the spell of something a bit wow now and again.
So without further ado meet my flame(s) of the month. After missing out on the bamboo heeled Acne’s last season, as soon as I saw these out-of-this-world beauties on Net-A-Porter I was done for. As if they’re carved out of the surface of Mars itself with a seriously satisfying giant buckle, dressing from the feet up has never been more apt…
I’m one of those people that have endless amounts of boots and trainers but the heel section of my floordrobe is still fairly concise, and in a few short weeks when it’s heating up and there’s no end of open-toe events to attend, I know I’m going to be very glad I already have these space cadets ready and waiting. Not one for the traditional floral dress and court shoes come wedding season? Me neither. Team these guys with silk culottes and an off-shoulder shirt and you’re good. They’re kind of making me come round to the idea of ‘hero’ pieces too… There’s something super easy about basing everything around one look-at-me pair of shoes; you get the double-takes with minimal effort. The khakis and the cashmere sweater might be the nicest kind of essentials, but they’re still essentially slacks and a sweater. And see, they even let me get away with second day hair and a bad skin day… Anything that let’s me do that is definitely an investment buy in my books.
